Many demand side management options can reduce
electricity demand (and hence emissions) more effectively than altering energy supply patterns. Demand side policies that encourage more efficient
use of electricity, such as in lighting, air conditioning, electrical appliances and industrial motors,
contribute to roughly 30% of the avoided CO2 emissions in comparison to the Reference Scenario by
2030 - nearly as much as the combined greenhouse gas mitigation potential from the power sector supply side.
